tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-50595661161911772072012-02-16T00:45:59.108-08:00Megan Bezdek McCarthyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10321114791366821166noreply@blogger.comBlogger21100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059566116191177207.post-7098458530442628822009-11-04T09:40:00.000-08:002009-11-04T10:04:08.669-08:00<strong>Ms. Megan's Mac and Cheese</strong><br /><br /><strong>Ingredients</strong><br /><br />1/2 pound elbow macaroni<br />3 tablespoons butter<br />3 tablespoons flour<br />1 tablespoon mustard<br />3 cups milk<br />1 large egg<br />12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded<br />(could also use Pepper Jack cheese or other cheeses as part of the 12 ounces of cheese)<br />1 teaspoon kosher salt<br />Fresh black pepper<br /><br />Options for additional toppings, if desired:<br /><br />Bacon bits<br />Bread crumbs<br />Small chunks of ham<br /><br /><strong>Directions</strong><br /><br />Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.<br /><br />In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the pasta.<br /><br />In a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk and 3/4 of the shredded cheese. Then slowly add in a whisked egg, stirring as you go. Season with salt and pepper.<br /><br />Finally, fold the macaroni into the mixture and then pour the macaroni and cheese into a 9x13 casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.<br /><br />Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.
